On Saturday (30/7/2022), the Ministry of Communication and Information of Indonesia (Kominfo) blocked all the platforms that had not yet been registered to their PSE program. There are 8 important platforms that have not yet registered, which can no longer be accessed.
The eight platforms that have been blocked include Yahoo search engine, Steam, Dota 2, Counter-Strike, Epic Games, Origin.com, Xandr.com, and PayPal. Surely this is not good news for fans, game publishers, and game developers in Indonesia.
Even now on various social media, the hashtag #blockKominfo as a form of social protest over the blocking of various game service platforms such as Steam, Epic Games, CS:GO, and Dota 2, still viral.
Some of them apparently also came from esports teams, such as those from outside Indonesia, such as Team Secret, Entity, and also Army of Geniuses, which posted their solidarity and disappointment via Twitter.
The following is a tweet from the Entity, "Reasons to move to Indonesia: Good food, cheap living costs, great weather. Reasons to stay out of Indonesia: Steam is banned there. YOU CAN'T PLAY DOTA!"
Meanwhile, Team Secret also did not miss to highlight this new Kominfo policy. They created a meme showing Deku from Boku no Hero: Academia, crying after seeing the "Sites Blocked" announcement from Kominfo, referring to game platforms that Indonesian gamers can no longer open.
The last one came from Army of Geniuses which posted an image of Ryu and Nishinoya from Haikyuu!! praying for Steam and saying, “...If Steam is blocked, how do we play then?”
The new policy has been vexing for not only gamers, but also most of the netizens in the country. Fortunately, UniPin didn’t forget to register our sites, so that you can always access and get what you need from us anytime you want!
