BOOM Esports, the pride of Indonesians, stumbles on their VALORANT Champions 2022 first match. They got reversed swept 1-2 by OpTic Gaming a few hours ago (2/9/22)

Like the theme song of the tournament, FEAR NONE, BOOM started their debut with high spirit. It’s just that they burned everything in game 1, that they couldn’t hold on to their lead for the rest of the day.

BOOM’s debut in VALORANT Champions 2022 started by taking on the No. 1 seed from North America, OpTic Gaming. The first game took five rounds into overtime to finally find the winner. In this match, BOOM showed why they selected Breeze to start the series by taking an early lead against OpTic who’s on the defense. 

But, the 8-4 lead in favor of BOOM was quickly diminished by OpTic in the second half, where they were forced to go to overtime. Both teams traded round wins back and forth before BOOM eventually closed it out 18-16 after five rounds of overtime. This might be the longest match this year’s Champions has seen so far.

Going to the second and the third match, it seems that BOOM Esports has lost their momentum. On the other hand, OpTic were quick to put Breeze behind them and went for the finish as fast as they could. 

First of all, OpTic chose Bind for the second map, where they managed to take down their opponent pretty easily. Finishing the half up with 10-2, OpTic had no issue closing the map out with 13-5. Of course, this force BOOM Esports to game 3.

After getting smacked by OpTic on Bind, BOOM struggled to get things done. They locked down the opening pistol rounds on Fracture map, but were quickly overcome by OpTic, who were outplaying them at every turn. With no gas left in the tank, BOOM Esports also lost the last game.

VALORANT Champions 2022 has already started and will go on until September 18. To get a slot in the Playoff, BOOM must win the rest of the match. Will the APAC representative make it?
